"A Journey Through Dreams: From New Orleans to the Mountains, Saying Goodbye, and Finding Peace"

I was with Jerry, Elaine, and George from Seinfeld waiting in the French Quarter for a bus to go say goodbye to an old friend on life-support. Somehow I’ve been separated from the group and have to sneak in with a group of fair queens headed the same direction. I get separated from that group and am now on foot with a family of backpackers, there is also three of them. We hike through a really wet humid forest for miles and miles. I think we’re lost but the father snaps at me and insists we’re going the right way. We continue in the forest and go over muddy train tracks. After hours we pass an Army band of recruits going the opposite direction which confirms we’re headed to civilization.

As we see the city in the horizon, I fall down an embankment and into a bunch of band equipment. I’m suddenly walking through a very crowded downtown New Orleans and realize there’s some sort of competition going on and I am a part of a tiny dance team of three other people. My teammates approach and I look down to realize I’m in uniform and join them.

I’m somehow in another state and wander into the fair queen association office. I’m asked if I’m the contestant replacing a drop out and I say yes because they are headed the direction I need to be going. For a while I become a part of a suburban community with these queens and go for runs. On one run I am headed to a big gorgeous house that has the only way to continue on the city park path. It has huge pristine sidewalks and a pretty outdoor area with white furniture. The couple was complaining about people cutting behind their house, but there was truly no other way to continue on the path so I went on my way.

I go through a neighborhood and then I’m running alongside a beautiful like prairie area with long yellow grass and mountains in the distance. I stop for a moment to take it in and catch my breath. The air is so clean and crisp and there’s this fabulous breeze. It’s a gorgeous scene and I feel so at peace. The whole time I’ve been running the song “Runnin’” by Naughty Boy featuring Beyoncé has been playing in my headphones and I hear the music.

As I take in the scenery, an old beat up truck pulls up along side me and it’s a friend who says he’s been looking for me because it’s almost time for the friend on life support to die. I get in and because as soon as I click my seatbelt I get emotional and begin to cry. I say to my friend, “It’s crazy how you can barely know someone anymore and then all of a sudden they become the most important person in your life” and that I can’t believe our friend is dying.

We get to the hospital and Jerry, George, and Elaine are there. Jerry is rushing me along because they were looking for me and they’ve already said goodbye and we’re going to miss our bus. I’m crying and at a loss for words. After a bit I just lean over and give him a hug and just say, “I’m so sorry I didn’t check on you more!” He’s not fully conscious, but moves his shoulder and leans his head to where his forehead is touching mine as if to hug me back saying it’s okay. We say our goodbyes and he slips away, although I don’t hear the monitors going off. The nurses usher us out and begin talk about arrangements. Then we’re on a bus with the fair queens riding up in the mountains.
